BISCAYNE BAY - JANUARY/FEBRUARY 2018

January and February fishing in SE Florida is conditioned to weather conditions.
We fished Biscayne Bay and Everglades National Park with success even in the coldest days of winter (yes, we have winters in Florida).

We had everything from cold NE to warm SE winds and the fishing was excellent for light tackle anglers and pretty good for fly fishermen who can adapt at different fly fishing techniques.

Bonefish were scattered in the flats but schooling in deep water where you could see them mudding.  Lots of snook got in the passes and back country with some fish in the extra heavy division.  We caught a few on flies and these always provide serious sport, especially in fast moving tides.
There were lots of large Yellow and Crevalle Jacks, Barracuda, speckled trout, bluefish and even grouper on flies.

I am looking forward to the upcoming months when these species are still present and the big Tarpon start migrating south, the warm water activates the bonefish and permit and all species are Spring Happy.

If you are planning a visit to Miami and the Keys, make sure you take a day off and come fish with me.  I will provide all you need to catch fish and enjoy a fantastic day on the water.
